A cornerless violin, made in bog oak, which is believed to be in excess of 2,000 years old. The whole body, the fingerboard and the tailpiece are in bog oak.

I choose to use the lightest coloured bog oak, as it is structurally the most sound and gives the best result for these violins. Darker bog oak has reacted with iron salts in the anaerobic bog, which stain it black. I have chosen to use the same iron salts to chemically darken this timber. Hence the striking coloration!

This violin has a fairly soft sound and a little of the harshness that you hear in some violins. It's certainly a striking-looking instrument, which I believe will appeal greatly to some people and not to others!
